Instruments: Dean Exotica QSE Acoustic/Electric Guitar, Praat.

The plan with this recording was to create chord strums that were reduced to their bare pitch values as sine wave oscillations, using Praat to pull the pitch values from the guitar sample. However, it's not even as straightforward as that, because Praat can only pull out one pitch at a time, and we're working with six strings here. So, I recorded the strings separately in time with each other, then ran them individually into Praat.

After getting the synthesized pitch-only versions, I brought all the samples I had collected into FruityLoops to synch them up. First I placed the original guitar samples together and played it back to figure out which ones I needed to move to get them synched — but when I heard the weird floaty effect resulting from their scattered placement, I liked it so much I decided to keep it.

The synthesized samples were arranged in unison. You'll notice in a few parts that one of the samples starts to wander off for a measure or so. That's because I had set Praat to fill in for silent parts (i.e. where one of the chords only uses five strings instead of six) by interpolating the pitch between the parts surrounding the silence. Random noise at the end caused a weird interpolation in one of the samples to create that odd closing bleep.
