After a round of sharing guitar licks back and forth over AIM with Ray, I was inspired to record a guitar rhythm track in the same key as the one he had just sent me. After listening to it and send it to Ray, I commented that it would probably sound just as cool backwards as forwards. So, we both took the file and turned it backwards on our computers and realized quickly that it was very difficult to figure out where repetitions of the pattern started and ended. After discerning on my part how I thought the pattern went, I figured the best way to demonstrate it to Ray was to add a drum track. So, I set up FruityLoops to map the bass, snare, and hi-hat drum samples found throughout the tunes in Sonic The Hedgehog 2 and used my MIDI Keyboard to jam out the drum track. Overall, this is pretty catchy and I hope to flesh it out and use it again later.
